Hand brake cable on the Corsa B
You operate the handbrake on the Opel Corsa B manually by pulling on the handbrake handle. The handbrake cable, which is available in duplicate, locks the right and left rear wheels. It has to fit tightly and adjusts itself automatically.
The Opel Corsa B is equipped with a classic handbrake. You put these on when you park the vehicle. The handbrake handle is connected to the right and left brake drums of the rear wheels by a handbrake cable. These are locked in place by the rope.
The hand brake cable must tighten the brake
- The hand brake cable of the Corsa B must be tight so that you do not have to pull the brake so hard. The readjustment usually takes place automatically.
- At the TÜV it checks how many teeth you are using to determine them and whether both rear wheels are locked correctly. If this is not the case, the rope usually adjusts itself.

- There is an automatic adjuster on the two brake shoes, each of which has a handbrake cable locked. This ensures that you don't have to pull up the handbrake too far. More than three teeth should not engage.
- The adjuster sits between the two brake shoes and comes apart when the handbrake is pulled. This does not move the brake shoes back to the zero point, but only so far that the brake shoes are just released from the drum when you let go of them. Then the drum can rotate freely, which is the case when you have released the handbrake.
- The adjuster ensures the right balance so that you don't have to pull up too many teeth the next time you tighten it, which the TÜV would complain about. If this is not the case, you can also set the handbrake manually.
