Laying plastic balcony boards

There is another alternative when it comes to decking for a balcony and that is plastic balcony boards. There are two different variants here. On the one hand, the hollow-chamber boards, which should only be used for balcony cladding, and on the other hand, the all-plastic boards, which of course guarantee optimum stability.

Plastic balcony boards are offered as boards with tongue and groove and are therefore relatively easy to lay. However, these cannot simply be nailed down, but require a somewhat more complex installation. The boards have the advantage that they are practically indestructible and very easy to clean. If necessary, they can also be dismantled and reassembled elsewhere.

Plastic balcony boards are very practical

Since balconies usually already have a slope, you no longer need to pay attention to this when installing your plastic balcony boards. To be on the safe side, check whether this is the case before starting work. If there is still no slope, you can achieve this by slightly increasing the battens on the side of the house with a few pieces of wood that you screw onto the roof battens.

  1. You must first create battens so that the plastic balcony boards can be mounted. To do this, measure the exact size of your balcony and create a wooden frame according to these measurements using your roof battens and metal angles. However, pay attention to the total height including the balcony boards in relation to your balcony door.
  2. When you have created the frame, you will of course have to mount more roof battens in between, again using metal brackets. As a rule, you should put a lath every 40 cm. Pay attention to the laying direction of your balcony boards so that you mount the battens in the right direction.
  3. When the battens have been laid, you can start assembling your balcony boards after you have sawn your boards. When laying vertically, place the first board on the left side with the groove to the right so that the next board can be inserted there. Ideally, you should first remove the tongue with a jigsaw on the first board so that you have a perfect finish. The same applies to horizontal laying, where you work from the balcony door to the balcony parapet.
  4. Use plastic roof panels - what you should pay attention to when doing so

  5. When the first board is in place, you need to drill holes to screw the board to the battens. Then insert a countersink in your drill press and countersink the holes a little. Now you can screw in your stainless steel screws. Stainless steel because these screws cannot rust.
  6. Now work board by board until the entire area with the plastic balcony boards has been laid. You now have a topping that you will enjoy for a very long time.
