Create a garden wall out of concrete

A concrete garden wall can be erected quickly. Please note a few things so that the wall is stable and can withstand the load.

If you have a Garden wall want to build, it depends on what purpose the wall serves. Depending on the load the wall has to withstand, you have to prove the concrete garden wall more strongly.

You have to calculate the statics of the garden wall

If the garden wall is used to support a slope, it must be more stable than if it is free. If the garden wall has to be pulled up, it must of course also be built to be more stable.

  1. As a rule, you need to build a foundation on which the concrete garden wall will be built. Mark out the area on which the foundation will be placed using a guide line.
  2. Cut off the edges with a spade and dig out the soil with the shovel. Depending on the height and the necessary stability of the concrete garden wall, the foundation must be aligned in depth and width.
  3. You can increase the stability of the foundation if you put a reinforcement in the form of steel mats on the walls of the earth.
  4. Erect a garden wall from sand-lime brick

In the event that you want to demarcate two gardens, for example, you can completely ...

  5. Now you mix the concrete. Ideally, they will have a concrete mixer or at least a paddle mixer. If necessary, the wheelbarrow, in which you mix the material with the shovel, can do the job.
  6. Mix two parts of gravel with one part of cement. Add water to it. The mass must not be too thin. The strength is right if you can work the concrete with the shovel.
  7. Fill the concrete in the trench. Compact the concrete in layers during backfilling. Use as heavy an object as possible with a small area as a tamper, for example a sledge hammer.

Stabilize concrete with steel mats

  1. Depending on the required strength, insert cut steel mats or steel rods into the concrete mass.
  2. Let the concrete harden for at least a day.
  3. You are now ready to build the top of your garden wall out of concrete. It is easier to have it with you if you buy garden wall stones from the hardware store that are offered specifically for this purpose. They are available in different colors and structures. Usually they are placed on top of each other like Lego blocks and give a beautiful look.
  4. You can also build the top layer with plant stones in which you plant flowers or shrubs. Otherwise there are ready-made cover plates that are placed on the top layer of the wall.

Your concrete garden wall needs formwork

If you want to build the garden wall entirely from concrete, you need to use formwork.

  1. Drive posts into the earth on both sides of the foundation. Place wooden planks against it from the inside and support the planks on both sides with a piece of wood in the middle. The upper and lower side, depending on how the wall is to be designed, must be closed with wooden panels.
  2. Then fill the concrete between the formwork. This concrete mass should be somewhat more fluid than the foundation concrete mass so that the sides do not appear too coarse-grained afterwards due to the use of gravel.
  3. Let the concrete harden for at least three days and then remove the formwork.
  4. If necessary, fill and smooth the coarse-grained structure on the outside with fine concrete made from Rhine sand.

Should the concrete garden wall serve as a retaining wall, it is advisable to use the foundation for stronger stabilization to go into the lower part of the actual wall and at the same time as a single piece of work to prepare. Then pour the rest of the wall height onto this part. Connect the concrete layers with steel mats or steel bars for stabilization.

If you erect the garden wall on the border or on the border with your neighbor, you usually need their consent. The rules can be found in the neighboring laws of the federal states.
