What an order to a towing company costs

  • Every towing company is obliged to state its prices on request on the phone. According to the Price Indication Ordinance (PAngV), he is also obliged to display the prices clearly visible on the passenger side of his vehicle.
  • Prices can be calculated according to kilometers. Fall in the process costs for the empty trip to your vehicle and for the transport, i.e. with your vehicle. In most cases, this calculation is only made based on kilometers if the vehicle has to be transported over long distances.
  • For distances of less than 100 kilometers, the calculation is usually made on an hourly basis. As a rule, at least one hour is charged, each additional half hour that is started will be charged additionally.
  • The prices are very different. It depends on whether the car has to be recovered with a crane, whether it is very heavy or unusually large. Whether it is an automatic car can also affect the price.
  • Other factors are the day of the week and the time. Example: Assuming the company needs 1 hour and 5 minutes for the towing with a journey, then you will be charged 3 x 1/2 hour. If the journey takes place from Monday to Friday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., the half hour costs € 70, after 7 p.m. but before 7 a.m. € 90 and on weekends or public holidays even € 110. In that case the costs would fluctuate between 210 and 330 €.

  • Unless you're in dire straits, there are several companies that you should check on the phone to find out what the cost of towing is. You will hardly be given a flat rate, but the prices per half hour or part thereof. the mileage rates. Nobody can give you any information in advance about the duration of the assignment.
  • When the driver arrives, ask how long it took. Be sure to note the time between when you call and when it appears. Make a note of this time and how long it will take to get your car to where you want it to go. Depending on the situation, you will receive a delivery note after the car is dropped off. Compare the times shown on the ticket with the times you have determined. Make a complaint right away. After accidents, it is sometimes not possible for you to receive a delivery note after the line has been provided.
  • Be sure to compare the times listed on the invoice with your notes or with the entry in the delivery note. The times on the delivery note are binding for the invoice. However, there may be deviations of half an hour from your determined time, in individual cases even more. Also make sure that a second driver was charged even though only one person performed the service.
  • You cannot use the towing costs that cities will charge you if your vehicle has to be moved as a guide. The cities have usually agreed flat rates with the towing companies. Therefore, towing costs less, but you still have to pay an administration fee and a fine.
