Finding the right stamp: It's easy!

Franking correctly with postage stamps

The first criterion for which stamp to use is the size of the envelope.

  • Letters with a length of less than 235 mm must be franked with EUR 0.55 or EUR 0.90, is your envelope longer than 235 mm, you need either a postage stamp worth 1.45 EUR or one over 2.20 EUR.
  • The final postage of the stamp to be stuck on is determined by the thickness and weight of your filled envelope. You can assume that a full envelope with the higher postage value is to be franked.
  • In concrete terms, this means: Letters folded in thirds cost EUR 0.55 for up to three pages of 80 g paper in an envelope, and EUR 0.90 from the fourth page.
  • Letters folded in the middle cost EUR 1.45 as long as the total letter weight does not exceed 500 g and the filled envelope is not thicker than 20 mm. If the letter becomes thicker and / or heavier, it is advisable to use an A4 envelope.
