Set a point after a bullet point?
The German spelling and grammar can be very unsettling. There is also often uncertainty about punctuation after a bullet point. Does a point belong there or shouldn't it?
In a nutshell
- A bullet point is not followed by a point. After all, bullet points are lists and not complete sentences. They are only the continuation of a main clause, i.e. not closed sentences that have to be ended with a punctuation mark.
- Even if the last bullet point is also the end of the sentence, no punctuation mark is used here. It used to be different. When the possibilities for the layout were not quite as mature, bullet points were separated with commas for a better overview. A period was placed after the last bullet point because it was assumed that the sentence also ends here.

Bullet points are mostly lists or notes that are used to provide a better overview of a text. They are also often used as a reminder, e.g. B. in presentations and lectures.
- A bullet point always begins with a hyphen or other bullet and does not end with a period. A space is placed after the bullet to visually separate the bullet from the text.
- The bullet points always start small, unless there is a noun at the beginning of the bullet list. After all, this is the continuation of a main clause that ends in a list.
- No points are set within the bullet points either. After all, it is a continuous sentence that must not be torn apart by a period. If contents are separated from each other in lists, semicolons (";") are used.
