Do you like to collect miniatures but don't know where to put them? Do your children want a doll's house and there is no space in the room? You can certainly convert a normal piece of furniture into a doll's house.

Basics about the dollhouse in furniture

The basic idea is that a doll's house does not have to be recognizable as such from the outside. It is important that there is a house inside in which the dolls can live.

  • Dollhouses take up a lot of space and offer little protection from dust to the little things that are in them. Usually the houses are also quite sensitive. If you are preparing a piece of furniture as a doll's house, you can often use it as well, for example as a TV cabinet and everything is neatly and securely stowed away.
  • There is hardly any furniture that you cannot use for the purpose. Glass showcases are ideal because you can then always see into the house, but also cupboards and shelves. You should cover the latter with plexiglass to protect the furniture from dust.
  • Are less suitable Drawersbecause they usually do not offer enough headroom for furniture and dolls. They need about 25 to 30 cm high if you want to build a dollhouse in 1 to 12 dimensions. If the drawers are too low, you may be able to only use every second one and connect the front of two drawers from the inside. This is how the cabinet looks normal and tidy from the outside.

This is how cupboards turn into dollhouses

  1. Measure inside how high the area of the closet is where the dollhouse is to be built. Place the existing shelves in such a way that compartments with a height of about 30 cm are created. If there are not enough shelves, put additional boards in the closet.
  2. Build a sloping roof cabinet yourself - instructions

A suitable sloping roof cabinet can be the solution to storage space problems in attic rooms ...

  3. Now think about a room layout. The living room, dining room and bedroom should be around 40 to 50 cm wide, other rooms can also be narrower.
  4. Use lightweight cardboard to make boxes that are open at the front and are deep enough to end about 1 cm from the back wall of the cabinet and high enough to fit exactly into the compartment. The width depends on the rooms you want to build and the width of the closet. The boxes should fill the entire width of the compartments, but have about 1 cm of space to the cupboard walls.
  5. Cover the inside of the boxes with wallpaper or white paper. Paint the walls if necessary and the ceilings. Look for pictures of tiles and wooden floors on the Internet. Print this out. Laminate the printouts by placing two prints on top of each other with the printing surface facing outwards before inserting the sheets into the foil pouches. So you get pictures of parquet or tile floors coated with plastic on one side. Glue the bottoms into the boxes with double-sided tape.
  6. Now you have rooms with wallpapered or painted walls and floors. If you also want to attach lamps, you can easily poke holes in the ceiling and pull the cables from the dollhouse lamps through there. Route the cables to the rear of the boxes. Similarly, you can also mount wall lights, only in that case you have to poke the holes in the wall.
  7. Now put the boxes in the closet. You will probably have to extend the cables. Make sure that the cables are all led downwards and must be easily accessible there. These should end in a part of the cabinet in which no space is intended.
  8. Place a power connection in this area of the cabinet, or put a box for batteries or rechargeable batteries there. Use a luster terminal to grasp the cables that come from above and connect this terminal to a cable that leads to the power source. Connect the cable to the power source. If you want to illuminate dollhouses with batteries, you should add switches between the cables and the connection to the batteries.

Now the dollhouse is ready and can be equipped with furniture and dolls. Dollhouses that you build in this way have the advantage that you can easily exchange entire rooms and the piece of furniture remains undamaged because you only put the rooms inside.
