Riding schools offer many young people a good opportunity to combine talent and school. Unfortunately, you cannot find such boarding schools in Switzerland; there are only special schools that offer horse riding as sports lessons. However, you can find equestrian enthusiasts with a good reputation in Germany, for example at the FN.

General information about boarding schools

  • Riding boarding schools serve to give children and young people with a special talent for riding the opportunity to combine school education with advanced training for riding. In this way, these talented young people can train both areas in the best possible way and become successful.
  • As a rule, the students of these special boarding schools have to bring their own horses, which they can keep in the boarding stables. This is of course not free, but the prices are comparable to normal one-staller prices in other training companies.
  • Some boarding schools also offer the students several well-trained school horses, so that it does not mean a handicap if you cannot keep your own horse despite talent.
  • The aim of these boarding schools is to combine school and equestrian sport, which is not always easy, as equestrian sport in particular has to be very time-consuming.
  • As a conclusion, you can, for example, take the rider examination, which opens the way for you to become a master horse manager.

FN comes from the original name Féderation Equestre National.

Opportunities in Switzerland

  • In Switzerland there are unfortunately no such options for combining school and equestrian sport within a riding school. Here, talented young people who are enthusiastic about riding remain dependent on their free time in order to be able to pursue this hobby.
  • There are also boarding schools in Switzerland, they usually have a very good reputation, but they focus more on the further education of the students. Ball sports are mainly supported at the sports boarding schools, there is hardly any horse riding.
  • At some Feusi schools, however, horse riding is offered as a sport, but these schools cannot be compared with German boarding schools.
  • That may be one of the factors that is why Swiss riders lag far behind other nations internationally. As a Swiss, however, you can train successfully at riding schools with a high level of training if you live close to these riding schools.
