Preserving whole edible flowers

  1. In order to preserve the edible roses as a whole blossom, you have to treat the blossoms with a sugar mixture. In the vernacular, the process is called candying the flowers. However, this is not about candying. The flowers are simply coated with a layer of sugar.
  2. It is often recommended to wash the flowers before the roses are preserved. Treating edible roses with water but worsens the result. Take a hair dryer and set the blow dryer to cold air. Use it to blow the rose petals. In this way, the roses are also clean, but are still suitable for making them durable.

  4. Mix half a teaspoon of gum arabic with half a teaspoon of distilled water for each rose blossom. Stir very quickly and just let the gum arabic trickle in. If you add all of the powder to the distilled water, the mass will clump together.
  5. Sprinkle a parchment-lined baking sheet with a thick layer of sugar.
  6. Place two shish kebab sticks next to each other on top of the sugar for two flowers each, so that you can place the rose petals with the base on them.
  7. Now brush every single petal of the rose petals with the gum arabic.
  8. Then sprinkle each individual petal of the rose petals with the fine sugar.
  9. Repeat the process again. The rose petals should be completely dusted with the sugar.
  10. Now place the rose petals on the kebab skewers and slide the baking sheet into the oven.
  11. Depending on their size, dry the whole rose petals for between two and six hours at 40 ° C.

You can also color the sugar with food coloring before you sprinkle the whole rose petals with it.
