The performance of a centrifugal pump

  • The most important performance characteristic of a centrifugal pump is the power consumption of the motor. The higher the engine power, the greater the delivery rate. So if a large delivery rate is required, the motor must also be correspondingly powerful.
  • However, the maximum delivery rate is measured directly at the outlet connection of the pump. As the delivery head increases, the delivery rate inevitably decreases.
  • For each pump, however, the maximum delivery head is also given in the technical information. This in turn depends on the pressure that the pump can generate.

Interpret the pump curve correctly

However, the delivery rate of a centrifugal pump decreases as soon as thinner pipes are used. Bends and branches in the pipe system also have a negative impact on performance. The pump curve therefore only provides limited information about the actual performance of the pump.
