- Surely you have already heard a call for blood donations. Here people donate their blood, which is then stored as blood for medical purposes.
- There are several types of this blood bank. The most common type are the red blood cell concentrates, these are blood reserves that are filled with red blood cells from a donor.
- But there are also preserved plasma, these mainly contain blood plasma.
- Whole blood is used very rarely, mostly the blood is divided into different components, because mostly only these are needed in medicine.
- The parts of the blood are preserved for storage and then filled into tear-resistant plastic bags. These must be stored in a cool place.

- Depending on the type of blood, a certain storage must be taken into account. Not all canned food can be stored in the same way. Where does the blood come from?
- When blood is donated, the blood is donated by people. This is mostly a voluntary act, but sometimes there is little reward for it.
- There are permanent blood donation services, which are often located in hospitals.
- Patients who want to donate blood are subject to strict requirements. Here, the age is carefully considered, because a donation under the age of 18 is not allowed.
- The frequency is also fixed, because a healthy person can donate blood up to six times a year without his or her own body to harm.
- When donating blood, about half a liter of blood is taken. This is then examined, divided into its components, preserved and stored.
