Image editing with the right program
In addition to the pre-installed iPhoto, you can of course also add more software to install:
- The most famous software in the field of image editing is Photoshop from Adobe. However, since Photoshop is also one of the most expensive programs for image editing, it can be worthwhile to look for alternatives here. But Photoshop also offers the largest range of functions. Really all image processing tasks can be solved with this complex program.
- If your main concern is managing large image libraries, Adobe's Lightroom might just as well be used. It has almost all the image editing functions (unfortunately no layers) of Photoshop plus a much better management interface for a much lower price. However, as I said, it is mainly management software. The biggest advantage of Lightroom is the ability to sort thousands of photos quickly and easily, find them again and, if necessary, edit them at the same time.
- For image-only editing, take a look at Pixelmator on the Mac. The program is also available in the Mac App Store for very little money compared to its competitors. It is basically a Photoshop clone that also has the most important Photoshop functions.
- With Pixelmator it is again possible to work with several image layers. It is modular so you only have to use and see the areas that you actually need. You can only edit one image at a time. Improving photos is just as possible here as adding text or creating collages.
