Chimney: The handle is broken

Immediate action if the handle on the fireplace is broken

If you are currently heating the apartment with your fireplace and the handle breaks, then this is an extremely annoying matter. In this case you should proceed as follows:

1. If the handle breaks during use, you should try to close the fireplace as quickly as possible. In any case, prevent the already blazing fire from escaping from the fireplace.
2. If the defective handle is hot, use a rag to close the chimney again. If necessary, you have to press the glass on the chimney until the chimney is closed again.
3. Do not add any more items to be fired, but wait until the fireplace has cooled down completely.

Repair the chimney handle

A broken handle on the fireplace must always be replaced. However, this should usually not be a problem:

1. Check either the fireplace or your records to see which model you have. You need both the manufacturer and the type number.
2. Now head to the nearest hardware store or store that sells fireplaces. Ask there whether they sell spare parts. If so, then buy the right fireplace handle based on your data.
3. If you cannot find what you are looking for there, you can search the Internet. Enter the search terms "spare parts" and "chimney" and then the manufacturer of your chimney. In this way you will find the right grip relatively quickly.
4. As soon as you have the new handle, you can dismantle the old handle with the appropriate tool (screwdriver, ring spanner) and assemble the new handle in the same way.
