Audiobook files from the provider “Audible” are referred to as Audible files. These are saved in the "aax" format when you download the audiobooks on your PC, for example. However, it is more practical to have these files converted into MP3 format.

Why Audible files are impractical

  • Not all media players can play the Audible format. So if you put your audiobook through your computer want to listen to it, a more common file format, such as MP3, would be better.
  • Even if you want to listen to an audiobook on your MP3 player, this is usually not possible if you have saved the Audible file in its original aax format. You also need to convert the Audible files to MP3 here in order to be able to listen to the audiobook on the go.
  • If you like to listen to audio books in the car, your car radio will also insist on files in MP3 format, since it can certainly not read "aax" either.

Convert the aax to MP3 format with iTunes

One way of converting Audible files into MP3 format free of charge is to use the media player "iTunes" from Apple to use.

Convert AA to MP3 - how to convert the files

  3. Now create a new playlist by clicking on “File” and “New Playlist” in the menu. Give the list a name.
  4. In the left area of iTunes there is the category "Books" under Media library. Click this with the left mouse button to display your audiobooks in the area on the right. Select the relevant audiobook with the right mouse button.

Confirm the message with "OK". iTunes will then automatically ask you to insert the next blank CD when it finishes burning a CD.
