The salary group in which you are classified depends on various factors: the type of school, the state and your age. At Realschule, for example, you can be classified in salary group A12 or A13. At the grammar school you will receive a salary after group A13 to A15. Like the course, salaries are regulated differently in the individual countries and can vary widely. This is because each country defines its own salaries within the salary scales.
  • As a teacher, you can become civil servant. This has a number of advantages for you. You do not have to pay into the statutory pension insurance and unemployment insurance. This means that you have a higher net salary than a colleague who is not a civil servant. The gross salary of a teacher averages between € 3,500 and € 5,000 per month.

  • The training is divided into a two-year assistant training course and a three-year training course as an educator at a technical school for social professions. If you have a secondary school diploma, you must acquire the secondary school leaving certificate during the social assistant. Otherwise you are not allowed to move on to educator training.
  • If you have completed mainstream school with the Abitur, you can skip the training to become a social assistant. However, you must do a one-year course after graduating from high school internship put in the social area.
  • As an educator, civil service is not usually provided. Depending on your age, years of service and the state in which you work, you will be classified in the TVöD salary groups. The levels are S3 to S18. On average, the gross salary of an educator is between € 2,000 and € 3,500 per month.

The educator profession does not belong in the pedagogical but in the social professions. These are paid much worse.

There are considerations to upgrade the educator profession and in a studies to structure. However, there has not yet been a decision in this regard. In addition, this would not guarantee that educators would then be paid the same or earn more than a teacher.
