Draw a right triangle

When you need to draw a right triangle, it sounds easy at first. But you can really do it quickly even if you don't know the length of the sides, only know one or two angles and maybe just about the angle perpendicular down to the hypotenuse? Math teachers can do real mean tasks, right?

Draw geometric figures - this is how the triangle works very easily

So you need to draw a right triangle. If your triangle can be anything and is without any dimensional specifications then you are quick to do it.

  1. Draw 2 Straight linesthat meet at an angle of 90 ° to each other.
  2. Connect the ends of the two straight lines with a third straight line. This is the hypotenuse that is opposite the right angle.
  3. You have now drawn a right-angled triangle - but not constructed.

If you are supposed to construct one, then you know that you should draw a right triangle. You have two guidelines. Namely the one that there is angle of 90 ° and that it is a triangle. So you know that the other two angles add up to 90 °. The question now is how big these angles are and how long the sides of the triangle should be.

Construct a right-angled triangle - this is how it works with a few specifications

If only the hypotenuse and its length are given, you may be given the alpha angle and the length of the perpendicular from the 90 ° angle.

  1. Draw the hypotenuse on your paper. It doesn't matter where you draw them on your paper, the triangle is created the same way.
  2. The alpha angle is usually the left angle, the right is usually the beta angle. But even here you can move alpha to the right; it makes no difference to the construction of the right triangle. Create the set square and remove the angle.
  3. First draw the side of the triangle a little longer, because you do not yet know the point of intersection with the unknown third side of the triangle.
  4. But you know the length of the vertical that extends from the hypotenuse to the right angle point.
  5. Theoretically, you could now simply slide the set square at a right angle (because it is the vertical line) on the hypotenuse. And as soon as the correct length meets the leg drawn in the hypotenuse, you have the point of intersection. But this is not a constructed triangle.
  6. To construct a right triangle, draw a line parallel to the hypotenuse along the length of the perpendicular. This parallel intersects the drawn leg somewhere. And with that you have constructed the intersection of the two legs that form the right angle.
  7. Now connect the free point of the hypotenuse with the found point, then your triangle is already finished.
