What you need:

  • 1 wooden board made of beech heartwood 30x20x1.5cm
  • Grinding machine
  • Polishing attachment for drill
  • Vegetable oil
  • soldering iron

As a particularly robust one wood Core beech has proven to be useful for making a cutting board. This wood is very hard and can therefore counteract cuts well. The maintenance of this wood is also relatively easy to carry out. So always look for core beech when you want to make a cutting board.

  • If possible, have the cutting board cut to size for you.
  • Ideally, you should own a grinder. However, there is also the option of processing the wood with an orbital sander. In this case, however, you should have a workbench to clamp the wood into.

Making the cutting board - the work steps

  1. Take the cutting board and work it with the grinder by adding curves to the cut edges and sanding the surfaces well. Use only very fine sandpaper for this.
  2. After you have sanded the board, you can still customize it, for example by engraving the edges with a pattern of your choice. You can do this work with a conventional soldering iron with a fine tip.

  4. When you're done this far, rub the cutting board with a little vegetable oil and then buff it with a clean polishing attachment with your power drill. Your self-made cutting board is now ready for use.

Please never clean your cutting board in the dishwasher. Rub it off with water. Stubborn stains can be removed with a little washing-up liquid. From time to time, you should rub a little vegetable oil on your cutting board again to maintain the wood.
