Job seekers in Germany receive benefits according to SGB II, which should at least secure their livelihood. Anyone who applies for Hartz 4 and still has a savings account must have the savings however, under certain circumstances, use it up to a certain amount before qualifying is.

Anyone applying for benefits in accordance with SGB II must disclose their entire income and financial situation. This is the only way for the authority to determine whether there is actually a need for assistance or whether the job seeker has assets that exceed the allowances provided.

Specify the savings book when applying for Hartz 4

  • However, not every savings deposit has to be canceled immediately if someone wants to receive benefits under SGB II. Because certain allowances are to be deducted from the assets or some assets are not to be taken into account at all.
  • The most important allowance is the so-called basic allowance. This is a flat rate of 150 euros per year of life for each member of a benefit community. In the case of a 40-year-old beneficiary, for example, there may be 6,000 euros on the savings book, which do not have to be touched.

Some assets are left out completely

Not every savings deposit has to be used up before withdrawing from Hartz 4. Because the law provides for certain allowances. Some assets are also not taken into account at all.
