The SV card is an important document that you must present to your employer in copy. If you have lost it or if it is so badly damaged that the data can no longer be read, you will have to apply for a new one.

Apply for an SV card from the health insurance company

  • Your health insurance company is your first point of contact if you have lost your SV card.

  • Simply call the hotline or your contact person, or submit a written application. All you need is a short, informal letter in which you apply for the reissue of the SV card and point out that you have lost your old one.

  • Alternatively, you can also submit the application directly to the pension insurance.

  • If you need proof for your employer, the health insurance company will also issue you with a certificate stating that a new ID has been applied for and what your SV number is.

  • It would be best if you made a copy of your ID card so that you already have documents that you can present to the employer. However, this advice comes a little late if the ID has already been lost.

The social security number is not lost

  • The SV number is like the tax number, it accompanies you for a lifetime. Therefore, the loss of the SV card is not that bad.

  • If you need the SV number, you can also read it off from other documents in the meantime, e.g. B. of your arrival or Deregistrations from previous employers or from notifications that you have received from your pension insurance company. All social security agencies work with this number

  • As soon as you have received your new SV card, check whether all the data it contains, such as first name, last name, SV number and date of birth, are correct. If there are any deviations, please contact your health insurance company.

If your SV ID card appears again later, or your old ID card has become illegible, return it to your health insurance company. It must be ensured that no one else has access to your ID and that you only have one such document.
