What Mozilla Firefox saves

When surfing, you don't just leave traces in the Internet. All your activities are also recorded and saved by your browser. Mozilla Firefox stores all this data in the so-called "timeline" away.

  • Mozilla Firefox mainly records your visited pages and your download history, which contains all downloaded files that you have not yet deleted from the download window.
  • In addition, Mozilla Firefox saves all search terms entered and form data sent, i.e. the data that you entered when filling out online forms.
  • Mozilla Firefox also secures the cookies created by the websites you visit. These contain all the data that you have created during a session on the website (such as the IP address or information entered such as login data or your e-mail-Address).
  • Finally, Mozilla Firefox also saves your cache (all temporarily saved files), your active logins (if you are in a Website "stay logged in") as well as certain website settings (such as character encoding or Zoom).
  • Delete visited pages - this is how you empty your history

How to clear your browsing history

  1. Start Mozilla Firefox.
  2. If you are using Windows XP, click in the menu on "Tools" and then on "Delete recent history". Otherwise click on the Firefox button at the top left and then on the menu item "Chronicle" and "Latest Chronicle" Delete ". Alternatively, regardless of your Windows operating system, you can also use the key combination CTRL + SHIFT + DEL to press.
  3. A small window will open. Then select the period that you want to delete. "All" is selected by default. But you can also delete the history of today or just the last hour or the last two or four hours.
  4. When you have set the period, you still need to specify under "Details" which data you want to keep and which you want to delete. If you only want to delete the browser history, you have to remove all the ticks except for the "Pages visited & download history".
  5. Once you have made your selection, click on the "Delete now" button. Mozilla Firefox then deletes the selected data and the window closes.
  6. You can now close Mozilla Firefox again.
