Once the dreaded "blue letter" is in the mailbox, the child has almost "fallen into the well". But not quite yet, because a blue letter from the school should first indicate that the transfer of your daughter or son is at risk. But then it is also important to act.

Blue letter and legal regulations

  • Under certain circumstances, however, you might be interested in the regulation that "underperformance in a subject in the transfer decision "may not be taken into account if you suffer from underperformance respectively. the resulting risk of relocation should have been notified, cf. Section 50 subs. 4 pp. 4 NRW School Act.

Get in touch with the school

  • If the blue letter does arrive, you should definitely talk to the teacher of the subject in question. This can possibly tell you which material needs to be repeated particularly urgently in order to still create the transfer.
  • Not being transferred is not an easy psychological situation for many students either. They have to change classes and may lose touch with their best friends.
  • Therefore, after receiving a blue letter at the latest, you should do everything you can to ensure that your child still manages the transfer.
  • Instead of scolding your child for a blue letter, encourage them to study.
  • If intensive learning is necessary in order to manage the transfer, then the television should have no place in the children's room for at least a while.

A blue letter is, so to speak, a final warning shot from the school that things are now getting serious. Therefore, you should definitely not ignore it.
