Make sound insulation for the music room yourself
If your apartment is big enough, you can also set up a music room at home, in which you can make music undisturbed and without disturbing others. Functional sound insulation can be built by yourself or as a professional system.
This is how sound insulation is achieved in your music room
- A functional concept is the so-called “room within a room”. Such a quasi-soundproof cabin that can be built into an existing room is also sold by professional providers. Since this solution is effective, but also very costly, it is more advisable to build it yourself for amateur musicians.
- How intensive the sound insulation of your music room needs to be depends, among other things, on the sound insulation that the building already has. Some houses are very well insulated, while in many old buildings, for example, you can hear every step of the upper tenant. Last but not least, if the isolation is not one hundred percent, the issue also depends on the tolerance of your neighbors.
- The central principle of sound insulation in rooms is to break the sound waves that arise and also to eliminate disruptive effects such as reverberation.
- A fairly simple, but in some cases quite viable solution is to cover the room with thick carpets. You should build a pedestal for drums, drums that stand on the floor or bass boxes. Otherwise, the floor would tend to reinforce the lower frequency ranges as a resonance body and, above all, transmit them, i.e. produce the opposite effect.
- A cheap solution is to pull in duplicate wallsso that a cavity is created outside your sound booth that you can fill with various small-sized filling materials such as styrofoam chips.
- Another method of sound insulation are sound-absorbing curtains that you attach to a rail and can therefore be used flexibly. Also known from recording studios are foam mats with knobs or Spikes that are used to cover the walls. You can create a similar effect with egg cartons.
- Make sure that, despite the insulation, there is functioning room ventilation and that you are arming yourself against the risk of fire, for example by keeping fire extinguishers within reach.
