How many climate zones are there?
There are many different climates. They can be broken down according to different points of view. Roughly, however, it can be divided into four zones. These include the tropics and subtropics as well as the temperate and cold zones.
Climatic zones and their characteristics
Taking into account the temperature conditions, the climatic zones on earth are divided in a simplified form into tropical, subtropical, temperate and polar, i.e. cold zones.
- In the polar climate zone, cold temperatures below freezing point almost always prevail. As a result, the ground in this zone is frozen all year round and the precipitation mostly falls as ice or snow.
- In the temperate zone, which is also in Germany prevails, there are, however, four different seasons. In this zone, the climate is on average neither too cold nor too warm, which is why it is also referred to as temperate.
- The subtropics, on the other hand, are hot because the summer temperatures are high here. The winters, on the other hand, are rather cool. In this zone, dry and rainy seasons alternate.
- It is also very hot in the tropics, but all year round. In addition, it is very humid there and there is no change of season.

There are many different vegetation zones in the climate zones
The tropics, subtropics, temperate zone, subpolar regions and polar regions belong to the physical climatic zones.
- There are many different florence zones in the tropics. However, their vegetation is dependent on the water supply. Rainforests, for example, are found in the always humid areas, while savannas and dry forests form in the alternately humid regions.
- The subtropics also have different vegetation zones. Many different hard-leaf plants and, depending on the area, also numerous oak and eucalyptus species thrive here.
- The vegetation in the temperate climate zone is primarily made up of deciduous, mixed and coniferous forests shaped, while in the sub-polar regions, which include the taiga and tundra, almost none Deciduous trees there. Many types of lichen and moss grow here.
- And in the polar regions, also known as cold deserts, there are only a few grasses, mosses and lichens. Because other plants cannot settle here due to the rough weather.
