In the event that you do not have a smoker at home, for example to smoke fresh eels, you can easily make a smokehouse yourself.

What you need:

  • carton
  • duct tape
  • Metal rod
  • box cutter
  • Incense flour

Prepare a large carton for smoking

If you don't have a smokehouse or smoker, you can simply smoke eels in a prepared box.

  1. In order to smoke the eels, you first need a large box. Now tape all sides of the box shut.
  2. Now draw a square on the upper side of the cardboard and then cut out 3 sides of the square with a carpet knife so that you get a flap.
  3. Then you have to poke a hole on the right and left side of the box.
  4. Now put a metal rod through the holes.

Smoke the eels in the box

Now that you have prepared a box, you can easily smoke your eels in it.

  1. For smoking, first hang the gutted and washed eels on the metal rod positioned in the box.
  2. You then have to tape the cut-out flap shut.
  3. After taping the box, you have to put the smoking meal in a disposable grill tray and light it. Read the instructions on the package to find out how much smoking flour you will need. The amount varies depending on how many eels you want to smoke at one time.
  4. Now you have to put the eels approx. Smoke for 90 minutes in your homemade smoker. When the eels are golden yellow, they are finished smoking and can be taken out of the smoker.

You can now serve the eels whole, for example, or cut them into small pieces for a buffet.
