  • about 1.2 kg rock pears
  • 1 - 2 (correct) pears (or apples; alternatively apple juice)
  • 500 g preserving sugar 1: 2

How to cook jam from rock pears

The purple fruits of the rock pear (the kind of copper rock pear is often found in gardens) are reminiscent of the Looks a bit like blueberries and has absolutely nothing to do with pears, as one would suspect could. The shrub belongs to the rose family. The small fruits are not only sweet, but also contain many vitamins and minerals. So harvest the little "pears" and cook a tasty one out of them jam.

  1. First you prepare the rock pears, that is, you wash the fruits and pick out spoiled goods.
  2. To get the kernels contained in the rock pear and the fruit deposits out of the jam, you should chop the fruit and pre-cook it.
  3. You then rub the fruit pulp through a coarser sieve, so that the stones and roots remain.
  4. Now add this fruit puree with chopped pears, apples, or applesauce Apple juice to 1 kg. You can also add (thawed) strawberries or other berries to the jam. This makes the taste of the jam rounder.

If you like the jam sweeter, you can of course also use 1 kg of preserving sugar 1: 1. This is not necessary, however, because ripe rock pears are sufficiently sweet for jam. You can also juice the rock pears and jelly cook from it, but this is not as aromatic as the fruit pulp.
