If you want to open a kiosk, the first thing you need to do is gather all the necessary documents. License, business registration and other formalities are necessary. This effort also costs some money, but above all it costs nerves.

Prepare to register the kiosk

Before you can apply for the concession, you need to prepare for the kiosk to open.

  • You first need a certificate from the health department that you can handle food. For this purpose, you will be given a lecture on the safe and clean handling of food. As soon as you know the regulations, you will receive the certificate for a small processing fee. Depending on the health department, you pay around 25 euros.
  • Then you have to prove that you can work professionally in the hospitality industry. You can either provide evidence of suitable training or complete a course from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The costs for this are based on the evidence you are aiming for.
  • You must also present a police clearance certificate. In the best case scenario, this should not contain anything negative. If a previous offense has nothing to do with your future job, it shouldn't be a problem either.
  • Similar to the police clearance certificate, you must also bring an extract from the central trade register with you. This extract is intended to prove that you have not yet closed any business due to violations of certain conditions. You can apply for this extract from your local registration office.   • Depending on how big your plans are, you will also have to present a clearance certificate from your tax office, your rental or lease agreement and information about the premises.

The concession itself doesn't cost much

  1. If you have all the necessary documents, you can apply for a license for your kiosk from your local trade office.
  2. It is easiest if you go to the office in person and fill out all the documents on site. You will have to answer questions about the nature of the deal.
  3. If you want to offer alcoholic beverages, you need an additional permit. The offering of seats also requires compliance with certain conditions.
  4. Applying for the license costs between 10 and 30 euros, depending on the office. The office will then forward your documents to all other authorities such as the tax office and the IHK.

With all the necessary documents, the kiosk license can cost between 50 and 200 euros.
