In order to be able to let a beautiful clown kick and kick, first get a picture of a typical clown as a drawing template. The following instructions are roughly based on a Illustration - just so that you have an idea of what is being described. So your clown will wear a coat (the arms are accordingly coat sleeves), wide trousers, oversized shoes and a small hat.

The jumping jack begins his life as a sketch

  1. First, sketch your clown on a piece of paper with a few clear lines. Start with the body, which you can roughly imagine in the form of a coffee warmer with a curve (shoulders) at the top and a straight finish (coat hem) at the bottom. On top there is an oval head in a suitable size. At the bottom (looking out of the coat) draw wide trouser legs (yellow) on them, the feet are in oversized shoes (black).
  2. The jumping jack-clown's coat is to be checked, sketch that (yellow / red). Put on wide coat sleeves with a large envelope (red) on the sides. So that the coat can be closed in the middle, it needs a vertical line and two large buttons. At the bottom, change the hem a little by letting the coat lap open a little and the coat is longer on the sides than in the middle. This offers the opportunity to see more of the pants.
  3. Your jumping jack's clown face should have a large, round, red nose and two white semicircles (a large one for the mouth and chin area with a semicircle below, two small ones (here rather ovals) for the white make-up eye area with the arches above). Don't forget your ears, hands, hat and bow tie.

The children's carnival is just around the corner and your child wants to go as a clown? So ...

And this is how you make your kicking clown

  1. As with drawing, start with the body, i.e. the coat. Cut it twice, using red and yellow cardboard (300g / sqm). Use a ruler and pencil to mark squares of the same size on one of the two and cut it completely into all of the individual squares. Then glue every second of them onto the different colored jumping jack body.
  2. Proceed in a similar way with the sleeves, which of course have to be cut out separately from the body for the sake of jumping. At the bottom, glue your hands against it from behind, which you make from the beige-colored cardboard.
  3. Make the legs with the wide pants of the jumping jack from yellow cardboard. Cut them a little longer, just like the sleeves before, because they will be attached at the back later and should still peek out long enough at the sides. At the bottom, glue the black shoes to the pants. The best way to do this is to give the shoes a slightly higher shaft so that you can glue them on the back.
  4. Cut an oval head to match the size (with a "neck" to glue on to the back). Provide the head with the white ovals for the eye area and mouth / chin area. The thick red spot for the nose is then glued in the middle and should slightly overlap all three semicircles. Paint on the eyes and mouth.
  5. You can either make the red curly hair out of red cardboard, but if you use your jumping jack want to have particularly three-dimensional, then you can also work with wool or red synthetic hair curls that you stick on. On top of that comes a small black bowler hat (hat).
  6. Now place your arms and legs behind your body so that they are in a hanging position in plausible places. Depending on this, you can now cut the front center of the coat a bit, so that the open laps are created. Using a ruler and black marker pen, trace the "button strip". Tinker buttons and the missing bow tie from the black cardboard.
  7. Punch your arms and legs together with the body at the previously determined places. Insert the sample bag clips (head forward) and bend them as loosely as possible.
  8. Now the kicking mechanism of your jumping jack: Bring your arms and legs into the normal position and then poke small holes in the arms and legs with a needle above the clamp connection. In doing so, you pull a string the length of the shortest connection from arm to arm and leg to leg.
  9. The two horizontal cords are then connected to one another by a vertical cord tied in the middle. This hangs down on the finished jumping jack, should be weighted down with a small wooden bead or something similar, and if you pull on it, it will kick.
