On Facebook, you can set your status to offline separately in the chat. This seems particularly advantageous if you want to be logged in to Facebook, but you are currently not in the mood for conversations in the chat.

The status of Facebook chat can be changed

First and foremost is the Chat from Facebook of course, a very practical feature that you don't necessarily want to do without permanently.

  • But maybe you would be very happy every now and then if you could switch off your online status for the chat, so that you can spend your time on Facebook without having to deal with any disruptive inquiries - for this moment have to.
  • Just as it is possible with the functionally similar instant messengers, you can also use the Facebook chat to determine when you will be seen and when not. Here you can even decide individually for each contact whether you should be displayed offline for them or whether they should notice when you have logged into Facebook.

Set the offline status for the entire chat

  1. First, click on the chat bar in the lower right corner.
  2. Now click on the gear icon to go to the Facebook chat settings.
  3. Set up absent status on Facebook in the chat - this is how it works

You like to be online on Facebook, but you don't want to be permanently in the chat ...

  4. Finally, select the item "Go offline" to change your own status.

Go offline for individual Facebook contacts

  1. Click on the corresponding chat avatar of your Facebook friend or use the chat bar to select the person for whom you want to appear offline.
  2. In the chat window, click on the gear icon to open the configuration.
  3. Finally, you can click on "Go offline for [your Facebook friend's name]" in order to be shown offline for this contact in the future. You can undo this at any time and normalize your status by selecting "Go online for [...]" in the same menu.
