VIDEO: Open MDB file

MDB files are available from the Office-Package of database systems created by Microsoft. Such systems are used by companies, administrations and also private individuals to collect large amounts of data such as B. a customer file to manage. The easiest way to do this is to open the file with the program that originally created it, in this case "Access". If you have "Access" on your computer installed, a double click on the file is sufficient.

Open MDB files with Base

• The file can also be opened with the database module "Base" of the (free) OpenOffice. You can find more information about OpenOffice at www. OpenOffice.org as well as in the current literature.
• When you have installed this module, click on the MDB files with the right mouse button and use the menu item "Open with", which leads to the individual possible programs.
• Here you select "OpenOffice Base". Almost all of the editing options known from "Access" are available in "Base". The database can be saved as an MDB file or in Base.

Open the MDB files with Excel

• An MDB file can also be created with the spreadsheet program "Excel"Open from the Office package. The individual data records are imported into an (automatically created) table and converted.


Alternative to Access - this is how you use freeware for databases

Microsoft, which is also the developer of your Windows operating system, offers ...

• The database system has accordingly become a table, so that you do not have all the editing options for databases such as B. the extensive queries are available.
• However, if you do not have programs for database systems and only look at individual data records or want to copy, all information from the database is available to you with Excel. This makes Excel a good and often already installed alternative. Changes in individual data records are also possible. The (changed) table can then be saved in a (new) Excel folder.
