If the journey is accident-free, the so-called no-claims class of car insurance increases for everyone. The insurance premium to be paid is always reduced by a few percentage points. You can take over this percentage from a relative for almost all car insurance policies. However, there are a few points to consider.

How to take over the percentage of the car insurance

  • The most important requirement is that you are directly related to the person from whom you intend to take the percentages. So it goes from parents to children or between spouses, etc.
  • Of course, you also have to prove that you have already driven the transferring person's car. For example, if the transferring person has a solo driver discount on car insurance, you cannot claim that you have already driven the vehicle. For insurance reasons, this would not be possible at all.
  • Another important point when applying the percentages is the date of the driver's license acquisition. For example, if the person from whom you want to pay the percentage has been driving accident-free for 15 years, the person has no-claims class SF 15. However, if you have only had a driver's license for three years, you cannot of course take over the SF 15 class. This is to prevent new drivers from being able to take over the no-claims bonus from their grandparents.
  • It should also be noted that the transferring person surrenders the entitlement to the percentages. If the person then wants to insure a vehicle again with a car insurance, they are again classified in the highest no-claims class.
