What do you do in the "first aid course"?
When you take your driving test, at the latest, it's time for a first aid course. In a few hours you learn how to take care of injured people in an emergency and how to give first aid. You can book such courses from various providers.
Helping is fun
You do not need to prepare for a first aid course. The trainers will explain everything to you calmly and use exercises to deepen your new knowledge.
- However, if you come across an accident site, you must know that you are legally obliged to help here.
- What you do, however, is not fixed. The help must be within what is reasonable for you and you do not need to endanger yourself. For example, if you pass out quickly at the sight of blood, you don't need to bandage a person covered in blood. However, you can always be expected to alert the emergency services.

Contents of the first aid course

- Do you know the correct way to call 911? You should inform the control center of your name, your whereabouts, the number of injured persons and the type of injuries so that they can react appropriately.
- But securing an accident site also has to be learned. You may have forgotten where to put the warning triangle. A secured accident site is particularly important in curves or on the motorway if you do not want to endanger yourself.
- One of the first exercises is generally speaking correctly to someone who is lying motionless on the floor, for example. How would you react?
- It is then important that you can check your breathing and pulse. The first aid course explains how to do this.
- You will also learn how to care for wounds, burns, hypothermia or broken bones.
- Probably the most important exercises that you will practice there are the stable side position with unconscious and the heart-lung-massage when no pulse can be felt.
