The Polo 6N2 is the "facelift" of the VW Group's vehicle, known colloquially as the Polo 3, below the compact class. The Polo can also still be found frequently on the used car market. However, as always, there are a few things to consider when buying a polo.

The Lupo is in a class below the Polo.

Buy a "not tinkered" Polo 6N2

  • Be sure to look for an unmistakable Polo 6N2. The reason for this is that "hobby tuners" like to change the look of these vehicles and, even worse, the chassis and engine, often with questionable success. You can also find add-on parts or changes that are not even allowed in the area of the StVO.
  • If you have a good one VW Polo, then the history of the vehicle should be at least roughly traceable. This includes the inspection booklet and all relevant documents. If you want to buy a gasoline engine, it shouldn't have more than 150,000 kilometers, a diesel not more than 200,000 kilometers on the odometer.

Check the VW Polo for weak points

  • In general, you should insist that the dealer give the TÜV remade before you buy the car. Do not get involved in so-called "hobbyist vehicles". The dealer only wants to avoid his obligation of the 1-year warranty, in most cases something is wrong.
  • Start with a visual assessment. Smaller rust spots as well as scratches or a few small dents are normal, but can be brought up in the price negotiation. Also look at the plastic parts of the polo, there it sometimes comes off paint.
  • The interior of the Polo 6N2 is often sad; the quality is not very convincing. The foamed plastic is often worn, the surface seal peeling on the painted hard plastic parts. Pay more attention to it.
  • VW Polo - change the battery

If the battery of your VW Polo is weak, you can get one from the auto parts aftermarket.

  • You should also take a good look at the sub-floor. Walk down the exhaust system from engine to the Exhaust and check for strong rust and holes. The end pot in particular suffers on the VW Polo.
  • Another tip on motorization: Keep your hands off the SDI, look for a more powerful TDI. The Polo GTI 1.6 liter is a good choice, the 1.8 liter with less power is not worthwhile and needs too much fuel by today's standards.
