With the "Rotate" tool, you can not only pictures turn. Layers, paths and selections can also be rotated.

  1. Start the freeware Gimp on your computer.
  2. Open the image that you want to "straighten" via "File - Open".
  3. To be on the safe side, you should save a copy of your picture now. To do this, go to "File - Save a copy". In this case the opened picture will keep its name and the copy will be saved under a different name.
  4. In the window to the left of your picture you will find the Gimp toolbox. Click the Rotate icon. You can find this tool in the third row of the toolbox.

  6. As soon as you click on the picture, a dialog box will appear. With "Angle:" you can set by how many degrees your picture should be rotated. Here you can enter the values ​​directly in the field or using the two arrow keys to the right of the Pay to rotate the image incrementally until the horizon or any other desired line is realigned is. Your input is possible in the range from 0 to 180 degrees. In this way, rotations of 90 degrees or 180 degrees, for example, can be entered exactly as a value.
  7. Alternatively, you can use the slider under the input field with the mouse move or rotate the image directly with the mouse held down. Both of these methods are appropriate for major corrections.
  8. Check the result of your rotation. If you are satisfied with the result, click on "Rotate". you computer now recalculates the image. If the rotation does not correspond to your ideas, you can undo the process via the menu item "Edit - Undo".

You can also call up the "Rotate" tool via the menu item "Tools - Transform - Rotate" or via the key combination "SHIFT + R".
