Fix video issues on Skype
If you don't see video on your webcam while on Skype, or can spread, this can have different causes.
- First, check that your webcam is properly connected to your computer. The best way to do this is to pull out the USB cable and then plug it in again. After a moment, you should hear a Windows tone indicating that a new device has been connected to your computer.
- Normally, you will then immediately receive a message as to whether your new hardware has been properly installed. If this is not the case, you should download and install the driver for your webcam from the manufacturer to be on the safe side.
- If your video still does not work in Skype, it may be because another program is accessing your webcam and is thus blocking access from Skype. To do this, close all programs that could theoretically access your webcam, such as others Chat-Programs, web browser or image resp. Video editing programs.
- Finally, check that you have the latest version of Skype and that your Windows system is also up to date, i.e. all new updates are properly installed. For example, an old version of Skype might not support the webcam service or your Windows system might not have the latest DirectX version.
