Modern Smartphones with Android-Software can easily be used as mobile access to the Internet. On the one hand, simple tasks can be done directly over the phone, and on the other hand, it is possible to share the Internet connection with a PC. This so-called tethering is available in two ways: as a direct connection via USB cable or in the form of a hotspot function that is implemented via WLAN. The advantage of the last-mentioned variant is that several terminals can be used at the same time Smartphone can be connected.

Set up mobile web access with Android

The easiest and safest way to access the Internet is via tethering via a USB cable. This can be activated in the settings of your phone:

  1. To do this, go to the main menu of your Android smartphone and select the "Settings" menu item. This can usually be found directly on the first page.
  2. There you look for the sub-item "Wireless & Networks". One tap of the finger takes you to this menu. "Tethering & portable hotspot" should also be found among the options available there. Choose this.
  3. Here you are given the choice between a WLAN hotspot and USB tethering. In order to be able to use the latter, the smartphone must be connected to the PC via a USB data cable. If you are prompted to install the device software, you can ignore it. In order to access the Internet with Android via the PC, this is usually not necessary.

Access the Internet from multiple PCs

If several computers are to benefit from the smartphone's Internet connection, a WiFi hotspot must be set up. To do this, proceed as follows:

  1. Work through points 1 and 2 of the above instructions. Then select the menu item "WLAN hotspot settings". Here you can make security settings for the connection. This is not absolutely necessary, but protects against uninvited guests in the network.
  2. To do this, select the item "Configure WLAN hotspot". With the network SSID you have free choice of name, the encryption should be set to "WPA2 PSK". Then set a secure password.
  3. Once these preparations have been completed, you can activate the hotspot. A few seconds later the new WiFi network should also be visible on your PC. After successfully logging in, the internet connection is ready.
