Clear the chat list in Facebook
With the chat function on Facebook, you can easily communicate with your friends and other contacts via chat, provided they have activated the chat function and are online. If you have created a chat list and now want to permanently delete it, you unfortunately cannot do this directly via the chat window. However, it only takes a few steps to make the chat list disappear forever.
What are chat lists useful for?
- On the one hand, you can use chat lists to manage your Facebook-friends Divide them into different groups so that you can easily keep track of things. You do not need to install an additional program on your computer to chat with your friends and to divide them into groups for the sake of clarity.
- On the other hand, you can also use it to specify who you want to chat with when you are in the Internet and are logged into Facebook. You only have to enable or disable your visibility for certain groups in the chat bar under "Settings" and "Restrict availability".
How to permanently delete a chat list on Facebook
- Log in to Facebook.
- Open your friends lists. To do this, click on "Lists" in the left area of the Facebook homepage.
- You will now see all the friend lists that have been created for you or that you have created yourself. Click on the list that you want to delete.
- A new page will open where you can find the history of all friends who are in this list. Click on "Manage list" in the upper right corner and then on "Delete list".
- Confirm the deletion by clicking "OK". Don't worry, if you delete the list, you will not delete data such as messages or photos, nor will you remove the friends who are in this list from your circle of friends. They just remove the list.
- If you now look into your chat bar, the deleted chat list has disappeared - and this is permanent.
