Beautiful traditional dresses - the choice of the pattern and fabric

  • Beautiful dirndls are particularly popular in Bavaria, Austria and Tyrol. But also outside of these regions they always find friends and lovers - not only when the Oktoberfest is approaching. A dirndl doesn't have to be expensive to buy, you can easily sew it yourself.
  • The most important "ingredients" for making a beautiful dirndl yourself are a rough idea of how the costume should look later, a pattern and suitable fabric. If no suitable pattern can be found, you can also use individual patterns and merge them. For example that of a blouse, a vest, a skirt and an apron.

The creation of your own dirndl

  1. Before you start tailoring and sewing, there are of course other things you have to consider. For example, the dimensions of the future dirndl wearer and any changes that deviate from the basic cut. For example, should the dirndl be shorter or longer than the cut dictates? Draw the pattern - this can be found on the Internet or in topic-related magazines - on tracing paper and adjust it accordingly.
  2. The final pattern for the beautiful dirndl is then placed piece by piece on the fabric, pinned and cut out. Always leave a margin at least one to two centimeters wide so that the seams can be turned over later.
  3. sew Then turn all the individual parts neatly and finally join them together one by one. Attention: Not all patterns are intended for a one-piece, beautiful dirndl. Sometimes the top, skirt and apron are each one part. Keep this in mind when joining and really only sew together the parts that need to be sewn together. Otherwise the dirndl will not fit at all or only very unfavorably. The apron, for example, is almost always an individual part.
  4. Sewing dirndls in oversizes - this is how it works

Even if you are a bit fuller, you would also like a pretty dirndl in ...

  5. Try on the individual parts of the dirndl every now and then to see whether everything fits and fits. Small changes are easier to make during the sewing process than afterwards.
  6. Difficult and unwieldy fabrics should be washed beforehand. This also prevents it from shrinking too much later. You can then decorate the beautiful dirndl with buttons and patches as you wish, making it particularly unique.
