Set up the D-Link router
A router is the interface that separates your private network from the Internet. When setting up the device, you may want to make a few settings for better security, such as with the D-Link models.
Access to the D-Link router - that's how it works
- To get access to your D-Link router first, you should open an internet browser. At first it does not matter which browser or system type you are using.
- Enter the address 192.168.0.1 into the subject line of the browser, which should act as the standard address for your device.
- If an error is already noticeable here, you should contact your provider immediately or check the contract documents regarding the data again.
- In the following menu you now log in with your data, whereupon you can set up the device,
Router - set up the device
- There are now several setup options in the device menu. First you will find yourself in the setup tab, where you can set up a wireless connection, for example. Unless you don't cable this can be helpful. The associated settings can be found in Setup -> Setting up the wireless connection. However, you should keep in mind that this will make your connection more susceptible to failure.
- Under Setup -> Set up a LAN you can now, for example, add additional computer share, which makes the configuration of a network much easier.
- Under Setup -> Parental Control, however, specific properties for blocking certain content can be set.
- In the Advanced tab you can now enable certain ports of your D-Link router, so that the internal firewall should no longer block them. However, this is usually not a mandatory option.
- Finally, a last essential step should be that you click the Maintenance tab and change your password there before you log out of the program options.
- The corresponding option is possible directly in the next menu, the device administration. For security reasons, the standard passwords should be replaced by a private variant.
