How to take half the lotus position

  1. Since the lotus position is rather difficult for the inexperienced, it is advisable to practice the half lotus position first.
  2. Sit on the pillow, preferably just on the edge, and stretch out your legs.

  3. The soles of the feet always point upwards in the lotus position.
  4. It is very likely that you will experience pain in your legs and hips at first. However, the more regularly you practice the lotus position, the more agile you will become.
  5. The further you place your feet on your thighs towards the upper body, the more difficult it is to remain in the lotus position at the beginning.
  6. Place your feet further forward on your thighs if it is still too difficult for you to hold them close to your upper body.
  7. If you are in severe pain, release the lotus position and do the half position instead.
