The lymphatic system consists of several parts:

• The spleen belongs to the lymphatic system, which - in addition to other important tasks such as the molting of blood, i.e. the breakdown of old erythrocytes - produces lymphocytes. In addition, it consists of about a third of the white pulp, which is lymphatic tissue.
• The thymus is still pronounced in children, but is increasingly replaced by adipose tissue with advancing age. The importance of the thymus as part of the lymphatic system lies in the shaping of the T lymphocytes and the production of hormones that regulate the maturation of immune cells in the lymph nodes.
• The lymphatic throat ring is also part of it. These include the tonsils in the mouth, throat and tongue, as well as individual lymph follicles in the throat. The intestine also contains lymphoid tissue, including the Peyer's plaques of the small intestine.

Anatomy and function of the lymph nodes

The lymphatic system and lymph nodes also belong to the lymphatic system.

• The lymphatics are the lymph drainage system. They end up blindly everywhere as the smallest vessels in the tissue and unite to form larger and larger vessels in order to finally transport the lymph back into the venous system.
• Lymph nodes are bodies several millimeters in size and surrounded by a capsule. The lymph is brought to them via several lymph vessels, which then flow through the node and leave it again via one or two larger lymph vessels. The nodes are grouped and are responsible for certain areas of the body.
• The lymph nodes have several Functions: On the one hand, they clean the lymph as it flows through it. In addition, the B lymphocytes, which produce the antibodies, mature in them. Lymphocytes are also formed here.
