There are construction helmets in a wide variety of colors. You have probably already asked yourself whether this has something to do with the fashionable appearance of the employees or whether the colors have a meaning.

Basic information on the colors of construction helmets

  • Construction helmets are available in white, yellow, red, orange, green and blue. The colors have a meaning, but at least on construction sites, it's not like the military, where there is a dress code. So there can also be deviations.
  • On small construction sites it is often common that every construction worker simply wears the color he likes, on large construction sites there is but mostly internal arrangements that everyone has to wear the construction helmet, which is customary according to his position and the respective trade is. It just makes sense that on large construction sites you can immediately see who is responsible for what.
  • In mining, the work is much more dangerous than on normal construction sites, so it is often vital to know who is in which role underground.

Importance of helmet coloring in construction

  • If you see someone with a white helmet on the construction site, it is someone from the site management, a foreman or a guest. Since construction management and foremen are usually not constantly on the construction site, it makes sense that a color of the construction helmets is used for a group of people who are not constantly doing their handicrafts there is working.

  • A red construction helmet shows you that it is a foreman, i.e. one of the superiors who are usually always present on the construction site.
  • The colors orange, yellow and green stand for the trades, i.e. work areas. The iron weavers and reinforced concrete workers wear orange, the bricklayers and warehouse managers yellow. The carpenters wear green helmets. The bricklayers used to use blue for their construction helmets, but this color is still used here and there today.

Colors of helmets in mining

The color of the helmets has a different meaning in mining:

  • Anyone who is only present in the mining industry as a visitor wears an orange helmet. The color white is reserved for the bosses (bidder and supervisor).
  • Red is the color of the mine rescue team and green is that of the safety officers. The common worker wears a yellow helmet.
