Function of the conclusion in the discussion

How to write a conclusion

  • Think before you write the conclusion and even before you finish the main body of your discussion write which of the pros and cons you find the most decisive and therefore you the strongest to convince.
  • In addition to the ones mentioned in the text, think of your own arguments that underline your position.
  • You can end a text-based discussion, for example, with the words "In conclusion, I contradict the words of the author, as the arguments xy do not convince me". Then state your main counter-arguments that support your opposing stance on the topic.
  • If you share the author's opinion, you can start your conclusion like this: "Like the author of the text, I believe that... The arguments xy in particular convinced me that... "
  • In free discussion, you should state your strongest argument immediately before your conclusion.
  • For example, you can begin your conclusion with the words: "All the arguments mentioned make it clear ..." or "The weighing of the arguments mentioned allows me to conclude that ...".
  • Now state your attitude and justify it again with the most weighty arguments.
